New Discovery: I Love Routines.

These last two weeks of "staycation" have been severely tough on me. Not only is my schedule just completley thrown, but eating has just been absolutely whacky.

I don't have much time to write as I am still spending time with my mom. I am having a really good time and although I can't be as strict with calories as when I am at home, I think I have done good so far (considering we have eaten out almost every meal!).

Yesterday went a little like this:
Breakfast: Soy Latte and Spinach Feta Wrap from Starbucks (SO good)
Cheesecake Factory for lunch: Grilled salmon w/ asparagus and broccoli for a side.
Snack: Frozen yogurt from IKEA
Dinner: Chicken/Artichoke Lasagna (this one was probably high in calories but I couldn't turn it down...my mum cooked it for me! Hopefully my portion was ok)

Today:
No breakfast but coffee...not good, but we were busy!
Snack: split a super small chicken pesto sandwhich with my grandma, so this could potentially count as BFAST
Lunch: Greek lemon rice soup, hummus and pita wedges
Dinner: Ikea meatballs and gravy (8 meatballs for around 230 cals) and salad
Dessert: 1/2 cup low fat ice cream

SO! I don't think I've created too much damage these past two days. Not really any excercise like I had planned but oh well...I will live! I am going home late tommorow, and then it's new years.

I've decided I am excited to get back to my routine!!

IKEA!!

My one update for the day includes this:

Ikea has DELICOUS frozen yogurt cones for 110 calories! Woohoo!

Up One, Gained Some Insight

Today is my weekly weigh in. I was actually pretty happy to see +1 this morning. That is not to bad considering that I had a really bad week. I definitely learned that when you gorge and just DO not care, you will see a result...and it won't be a good one!

I am hopefully back on track and plan on losing at least that gained pound and hopefully more this week. Maybe I will make it to a new weight decade? We will see!

Visit with My Momma

I am going tomorrow to stay with my Mom in the city of Seattle for three days. She lives about one mile away from the space needle.

Good things about staying with my mom include: access to a really nice free gym in her apartment building. I told her that I plan on using this every night. Also, my mom has lost 50+ pounds (she's never told me an exact number) from the lap band surgery. Although this is a different way than I am doing it, I still am able to talk openly with her about my weight. Also, she is a Registered Nurse. I plan on talking to her more about becoming a dietitian and get her opinions on it:

Bad things about staying with my mom: we will probably be going out to eat for most meals. This means extra calories I just don't need. I am going to have to do quite a bit of research and be pretty cautious before I dine. I'm hoping she'll understand.

Tomorrow is my weigh in day, and I'm nervous. Even if I gain though, I know why, and this week has been a necessary learning experience I needed.

It's easy as ABC...

Well, not quite, apparently. The last two days have been a struggle for me. A HUGE one. It all started out when we went to the in-laws for dinner on Christmas Eve. They were eating hotdogs and tater tots....not even kidding you! I was SO hungry by this point and was really hoping that my Mother in law would be cooking something decently healthy (she usually does). But unfortunately, my husband has a lot (and I mean A LOT) of little siblings, and they were pressed on time because we were going to church. So you'd think I would just pass on the unhealthy meal huh? NOPE! I was starved, and I ate. Yuck.

Then Christmas. It was an entire day (starting at 7 am, remember the husband has little siblings so we had to make it to the house early). From 7am forward, we were running around all day and gorging on goodies. Cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning is a tradition in his family, and of course I couldn't say no to that either! (in fact I don't think the word "no" even came out of my mouth yesterday!!). From there on it went wayyyyy downhill!

Today is a new day. I ran my C25k 6.1. I may have gained some weight from the last two days, but I am not letting that stop me on this mission to be fit!!

I got a Canon I got a Canon Rebel XSI for Christmas. (the shot above is one of the first ones I took). I started a photography blog. If you are interested, my photo blog link is: http://photorebellove.blogspot.com. Please come stop by!

Ugh...

I probably just ate like 3,000 calories.... I feel like I need to run an entire marathon to run that off! Yuck....

No gain...just maintain!

That is my motto for this week. And that is all I have to say.

Merry Christmas!

What's Up Doc?

Total Sidenote: There it is! Our little tree- on the table to be puppy-proof! I'm am SO excited for Christmas and to spend time with both mine and Kellen's family.

Today was my yearly check up at the doctor's office. I talked to the doctor about my new weight loss journey and compared weight's from one year ago. Last year at this time, I was 2 pounds less than I am today according to the doctor's scale. I can NOT believe that even after losing 13.5 I am still up two pounds from last year. HOLY GUACOMOLE...and NOT good guacomole either....this is like that nasty, processed chip-dip kind. Rough calculations that I have done mean that I had gained 15 pounds over 11 months. What the heck was I doing? Bathing myself in chocolate everyday?!?!

Ok, but seriously, this just shows how desperately important it was for me to make a life change. If I were to continue eating like that and on that same road, I would literally end up in my grave at a seriously young age. (if not literally dead, at least physically!)

Now that I have had such a intense wake up call it is time to BUCKLE DOWN and take some action! I can't wait to be a different person in 2010. And since everyone else is doing pretty little goal lists, I think I may just join the bandwagon:

For 2010:

1. Run three 5k's. My first on my Birthday: March 17th- St. Patrick's Day.

2. Get to my initial goal of 40 pounds down. Completely doable.

3. Drink more water. Period.

4. Start school again and decide on a major. This IS the year!

5. Learn to LOVE myself! Gain back some confidence I used to have when I was a skinnier and healthier me!

That's it for now....I CAN do this!!

I don't want to grow up!

Today was a good day. It started out by me sleeping in, which is always good. Then me and ChloeBear went on a run- C25k 5.3. I was actually really nervous about this day because I knew my digital C25k trainer was going to make me run 20 straight minutes. I started out at a snails pace and didn't move much past a turtle....but I did it! I was very happy.

I headed to subway for lunch and picked up two footlongs- one for me and one for the hubby. I opted to get turkey today and ate one half for lunch and one half for dinner. Easy, simple.

After lunch my friend Colleen stopped by. We did a little baking! I made cranberry white chocolate chip cookies. I was proud of myself for only sampling two after they were done :).

Last night Kellen and I had yet another discussion about "what i want to be when I grow up" GRR! why do I have to decide this?!?! Why can't the magic job fairy just come along and give me the skills and degree to do what I want for the rest of my life? Anyway, I got to thinking about how much I am really loving about learning about nutrition. I took a nutrition class in college and really, really enjoyed it. My professor worked for WIC, a program that helps pregnant women and women with young children learn about healthy nutrition. I thought about how cool it might be to work for a company for that. So I emailed my local branch, and I may be going in January to "tour" their office and see what it might be like to be a dietetic. I've even found an online school program that would really work for me. Well....we will see!!

Thanks to my blogger friends for all the support lately. I'm loving all your wonderful comments!

Staycation and Weigh In Monday

Well today is my first "official" day of my two weeks staycation. I have a HUGE to do list which includes deep cleaning every room in our house, painting our entryway and hallway, and also organizing our office. Phew! That's why this is going to be a short post today, and I'm putting a rule on myself to not get back on the computer until tonight!!

So now for the weigh in results....I am in utter shock right now. I am at 13.5. As I am writing this, I am actually questioning that number....but I weighed myself twice!! Seriously, I'm in shock. Happy shock! That is 13.5 pounds lost in 6 weeks.

So here is the WEIRD thing...you know how you get a song or saying stuck in your head and you say it like over and over and it drives you crazy? Ok, well, this week I literally had the number "14" stuck in my head. Like when I mentally thought about how much I had lost, I instantly thought of the number 14. Today I am down 13.5, which is close enough to 14 that I think that's kind of weird and creepy!

The Back Up Underwear

You all know those underwear I'm talking about. The ones that sit at the back of your drawer, waiting for the day that all your other undies are in the laundry. They rarely ever get worn, if ever, mostly because there is usually some flaw to them that makes you avoid them at all costs.

Well I pulled mine out yesterday. The flaw: to small. Although adorable, I got these pair of undies for my bridal shower two years ago and have only worn them a number of times because they are a large from Victorias Secret, where apparently every woman is stick thin with a size D chest.

Anyway, the point is, I am happy to report my back up undies fit just a bit better yesterday :).

On other such matters, this weekend has been a frustrating food frenzy. I didn't eat much on Friday so once the hubby said he wanted to eat Teriyaki that night, I obliged and was not to afraid of over doing it on calories. Yesterday we went to a pub with some friends. I couldn't decide between a "Vegan Burger" and the "Fish Tacos". I decided on the tacos. Sour cream and cheese on the side. I have absolutely no idea how many calories that was. Oh well, we will see how my weight is tomorrow.

A Moment of Honesty

I got married in July 2007. I was overweight when I got married, but I can't even remember how much I weighed at that point. I literally have avoided the scale my entire life unless I was "attempting" to lose.

The last 2 and half years, I have lived in fear of getting pregnant. This is me being completely honest. Now I realize that no one ever feels ready to get pregnant (or most people). I realize that you will never have enough money, time, space, etc. But for me, it was a different reason.

I can't wait to be a mom. I want to give my kids everything they need and take care of them to the best of my ability. And to me, being overweight, having a high risk pregnancy, is completely opposite of doing everything I can to make sure that my babies have the best life they can.

Everyone I have talked to tells me "Oh come on Nicole, you are not THAT overweight." Yes, I'm not THAT overweight. But my mom gained 75 pounds when she was pregnant with me! That could very, very easily be me. Bite by bite, pound by pound, I could be putting my baby at risk.

I'm not pregnant now, in fact, we don't even plan on trying for a couple more years. But I am happy to stop living in fear and be able to at my goal weight so I know that I CAN take care of myself when that time comes.

Just thought I'd share on what I have to say is one of my biggest motivators for this journey...my future babies!!

Happiness and JOY!

I got my very first award! It was from Laura over at Life Happens. The funniest thing about Laura's blog is that it is not a weight loss blog, which is really all I was expecting to read once I started my own. But once I found Laura's blog and started reading about her adorable kids and sweet photography tips, I was hooked!!

The rules are to list ten things that make me happy and five blogs that make me happy and pass this along to them!! Considering that my blog is focused mainly on my weight loss goals, I'm going to go with that theme as I make my list, so here goes...

1. The feeling in my lungs when I breathe now. I never realized how being in shape could actually just make me feel better when breathing!!

2. Stretching. It makes my body feel SO good and maybe this is TMI...but I feel sexy when I do it!

3. The feeling of a hot shower after you work it. It's such a refresher.

4. Discovering a new healthy, easy meal to make. My favorite right now are my Turkey Avocado BLT's. YUM!

5. Teaching my husband about being healthy. Even though I'm sure I annoy him, I love it when he WANTS to learn about calorie intake and such.

6. Celebrating other people's weight loss accomplishments. My friend Hollie has lost over 40 pounds! And of course my blogger buds too.

7. Learning more about my own body. Ok, this one is a stretch. But I really have enjoyed just being more "in tuned" with what my body is telling me.

8. Knowing that I am taking care of my pup. If I didn't get her exercise, I'd feel like a bad parent. I'm always happy to poop her out!

9. Blogging. I'm completely addicted and i LOVE it. I see it as a healthy addiction though...it keeps me totally accountable and inspired.

10. The scale. As I've said before, it's a love/hate relationship. But let's be honest, I have to resist squatting down and hugging it as the numbers go down!

Five blogs that make me happy...

Jen @ The Shape of Things to Come... OK, so I JUST found her blog but she is already an inspiration to me. Hopefully she doesn't find it a little to early to be declaring that! It just makes me so happy to see a woman who has accomplished so much and is now having a totally healthy pregnancy.

Melissa @ Do These Blogs Make Me Look Fat? She has been a really awesome support to me the last couple of weeks! I really have enjoyed reading about her weight loss challenges and triumphs.

Melissa @ Try Try Again She is just absolutely adorable! I love her weight loss blog and I feel like she is just SO honest with what she is dealing with. It makes me feel better about being so open on mine :).

Tricia @ Endurance Isnt Only Physical I found Tricia's blog randomly but it was one of the first weight loss blogs I read and it really inspired me. Plus she took the time to help me with some blogging details :). I love reading about her complete transformation and am inspired to run like her someday!

Kaitlin @ Everyday Grace Kaitlin was my first follower! haha. I really have enjoyed reading her blog and love that we are (around) the same age. She has worked SO hard and accomplished a TON in the last couple of months! She's awesome!

I am still just getting started on my blogging adventures and am SO thankful for all of the people who "follow" mine! You all make me SOOO happy!

It's a Wonderful Life!

Kellen and I have a Christmas tradition of picking out our tree, decorating and drinking hot coco while watching It's a Wonderful Life every year. I don't know what it is about old black and white movies, but Kellen loves them. This is the only time I see my hubby get emotional! I don't really understand why you would be emotional over it when it has a happy ending, but something in it just strikes a chord in him. Anyway, it definitely melts my heart to see him that way and know that behind my strong, manly, buff, construction worker husband, there is a soft and sensitive heart. I love it.

I was just thinking about this movie and the real meaning behind it...that there is SO much to be thankful for in our life and how we truly impact people without even knowing it. So I started thinking to myself...what have I done recently to make myself a better person?

My facebook status today says "There is really no better feeling than feeling like you have done the best you can and feeling accomplished. So happy." After my run this morning (and YES, I am feeling better!) I finally realized that I am finally at a point in my life that I am truly proud of myself. I can't believe I have been working out for almost two months now and striving to live a healthy life. It's something that I've wanted to do for SO long and now I'm finally feeling like this is a LIFE change.

Anyway, the point of this post is just to say: It's a DAMN wonderful life!

Favorite At Home Workout Videos?

I've done the 30 day shred, but I'd like a little more variety. I tried to do "Cardioke" but couldn't take myself seriously. Lol. What's your favorite at home workout video?

This Face has Made my Decision.

She is literally running circles in my living room and going psychotic

Lack of excercise has gotten to her

I fear for my life

She may just eat me if I dont take her asap

and just for kicksthis is how my dog sleeps

I don't wanna!

Darn it, Darn it, Darn it!!!

I WANT to work out, but I don't. I'm not feeling too sick right now, but now my monthly visitor is visiting and I'm just not feeling up to do anything!! Argh! I hate this feeling. I just wanna feel 100% again and go work my little {big} booty off!

Ok, so I'm venting. Thank you blogger friends for providing me that opportunity.

Feelin' Icky

Well I woke up this morning still feeling kind of crummy. I decided to pass on the gym today, which was actually a really hard decision because I have worked out for quite a long streak now... and breaking it just seems wrong! But alas, I must take care of my body in a different way today and let it rest.

This whole only declaring my weight on Monday is already driving me crazy! I just don't want to wait a whole week to have to announce (hint, hint- I was down this AM...hehe). But I am holding out! It definitely gives Monday a new lift, because, let's be honest, who likes Monday's anyway?

One thing I have noticed that is not such a good habit I have gotten from eating healthy is noticing how many calories people eat around me. For instance, every Tuesday Kellen and I hang out with a group of friends and they make dinner. Kellen and I usually eat at home and don't join in. Last night we went and they were making breakfast for dinner. I watched these skinny girls scarf down thick bacon, potatoes, eggs, sausage, and then top it off with some pie for dessert. DANG. A month and half ago that would have been me, and now I just kind of think...ew! I hope I never get to the point again where I can eat that much without thinking about how many calories it is.

Kill Me NOW!

This is exactly what I was saying to myself during my first ever step class this morning. I headed over to the local gym and decided to do a one week trial membership. While I was waiting for the class to start, I did some elliptical and a stationary bike.

My friend met up with me to go to the step class. We had no idea what to expect. It started out good and was definitely a high intensity work out. After about 20 minutes, I totally hit a wall. I felt SO nauseous and knew that if I kept going I was going to hurl. I tried to get back into it multiple times, but each time I felt more and more sick. I finally decided to call it quits, I apologized to my friend, and snuck out of the class.

I am so embarrassed. I was DEFINITELY the youngest person there. There were probably multiple people in their 60's and 70's just totally rockin it. I can't believe I couldn't do it. I wanted so bad to finish the class but my stomach was just not having it. And since I get no opportunity to explain myself to the 30+ people in the class, they all probably thought I just gave up because it was to hard.

Oh well. Just a little humbling on my part I guess.

Now I'm really wondering if I'm coming down with something. I've been feeling kind of achey and nauseous but nothing to the point that I would say I have the flu. I don't know.

New Tradition: Monday Weigh In's

With so much fluctuation of the scale throughout the week and from much inspiration from others blogs, I have officially deemed Monday as my weekly weigh in day. Of course I will not be able to fight the temptation of weighing everyday (sometimes it gets me out of bed!), but for blogging purposes, I am going to stick with Monday to update my results.

Today I weighed in at 10 pounds down. My monthly visitor should be arriving any day now so I am pretty happy with this weight.

In other news, I was watching the Today show and a lady came on who had lost 110 pounds in 6 months from the "cookie diet." Um...what in the world is that and why haven't I got on that bandwagon? haha, ok, in all seriousness I don't know anything about it, but I think that any kind of diet where I have to incorporate some kind of product to lose weight might not work for me. I really don't think I would be able to handle eating the same cookie(s) everyday for the rest of my life...which is, in essence what would have to happen to maintain. Anyway, just wondered if anyone had heard anything about this?

No One Else But Me!

I had a bit of a revelation yesterday. As I came home from the run and walked in the door, I was so desperately hoping that Kellen (Husband) would have a gigantic surprise party with tons of friends and family, heaps of congrat presents, and a yummy healthy breakfast waiting for me on the table. Of course I am exaggerating just a bit, but you get the point. I was hoping that the pride I had for myself for competing that race would be reflected in him.

Now don't get me wrong, it's not that he didn't say right away "Oh, I'm proud of you Nicole!" when I walked through the door. But...it just wasn't all I was hoping for...if you know what I mean. It was at this point that the last month and a half of hard work and constantly waiting for encouraging words hit me- it was never going to be enough. I finally realized that NO ONE can encourage me in the way I exactly am seeking it.

I am loving the encouragement of this blog and my fellow bloggers. And let's be honest, about 98% of the people in my life that ARE close enough to me to know the hard work I'm doing, have absolutely no idea how hard this is. According to me athletic husband, running 3+ miles is just a way of life...so what's the big deal? It's not like he's trying to downplay what I've done...it's just that he really does not understand.

So my revelation finally brought me to this: I HAVE to find the strength, the encouragement, and the pride in myself to continue this race. Only when I have made that realization will this be a life-long journey that does not rely on the encouragement from others, but instead the accomplishment in myself.

First Run: Complete!!

This morning was my first real "marathon type" run. It was only one mile, but I feel very accomplished! My friend Hollie who does 5k's all the time went with me! She was a great support and stayed with me the whole time. The first part of the race was a small hill/incline and was really hard for me, but once we turned the first corner, it was level and downhill the rest of the time. I got 11:37 for the time. Definately not impressive for a mile, but I am just happy I ran the whole thing! :) Here's a pic from before the race:

My First Real Run!

Yesterday I heard about something called the "Solstice Run" going on in a town really close to where I live. I was SO excited when I saw that they had a one mile run to do! My friend and I are going to be going. I can't wait! It will be this Saturday. Here is what the race is supporting:
"What is Go Run!? Go Run! is a local program working to enhance the lives of girls physically, emotionally and socially. Running activities are used to involve girls in a positive team experience involving goal-setting, positive adult mentoring and leadership opportunities in a supportive environment."

What an amazing thing to support! I now have two days to make sure I'm going to run an entire mile!

In other news, Carrie the scale gave me good news this morning: I am down to 10.5 pounds down. Here my
question to all you other more experienced weight loss gurus though: for some reason my scale keeps doing "waves" on me. It's almost an exact pattern. I will be down to a certain weight (we will use 194 for example). Then it will go up to 195 for TWO days, and then after those two days it will drop down 2.5 pounds. I'm not even kidding that this is like an exact pattern. It's SO weird. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Needless to say, I will thank Carrie and take my my 10.5 punds down. I am suppressing my joy for the 10 pound mark as I have basically have the "I lost ten pounds" mindset for the last week. hehe

Carrie the Possessed Scale- A Love/Hate Relationship

Today I have decided to name my scale Carrie. Yup, that's right, my scale is now named after the 1970's horror flick about a psychotic possessed woman. (No offense to any fellow bloggers with that name!). I am perpetually convinced that my little lovely Carrie knows exactly when she can STAB me in the back!

Today I was really hoping for at least 1 pound down. I have been maintaining at 9 pounds down this entire week, despite working out every day and counting calories. But Carrie was not in the best of moods this morning. Not only does Carrie not like to oblige me when I ask her to show a low number, but she also doesn't show anything but .5's or rounded numbers. Carrie does what she wants I guess.

Carrie, you will forever haunt my dreams until you show me some low numbers!!

Skinny Friends Just Don't Get It

On Saturday I hung out with a long time friend who has never struggled with her weight. She was always the “skinny” friend growing up. We started our time at Subway for lunch and I chose to get a foot long veggie sub. I was SO full afterwards, but boy am I glad I made that decision! Our next stop was Wal Mart to do a bit of shopping. Within the first half hour, my friend (fully knowing that I am trying to eat healthy and lose weight) asked me if I’d want to buy some macaroni and cheese and candy to eat later. I politely reminded her both times that I was trying to eat healthy. She laughed and was apologetic for offering two times in a row.

When we left Wal Mart, she asked if we could stop by Starbucks. Now this is not SO bad because there are healthy choices there, but the temptation is still high for someone struggling. Luckily, I resisted and just asked for an ice water.

Later that night she proceeded to talk to me about how she couldn’t decide whether to order mozzarella sticks or mini burgers from Applebee’s. (We weren’t even there yet!).

Instead of Applebee’s, we ended up heading to grab snacks from a local supermarket later that night. While I was frantically searching for a good healthy, quick meal to grab (they had closed down the salad bar), she then “lovingly” offered to “buy the chips and you can by the dip!”

I have to admit; I got a little snappy at this point and felt kind of guilty afterwards. I just don’t understand how people can be so insensitive to something that they KNOW you are working so hard at. But at the same time, I have to remind myself that she has never struggled with her weight, and she doesn’t realize that eating can be an addiction just like drugs or alcohol.

Later that night I laughed with her that from now on I would just make a habit of eating a foot long veggie sub pre-hang out with her to avoid temptation.

One Month

Today marks my one month anniversary on my weight loss journey. I'm pretty proud of myself so far. This month has been hard and challenging, but it has also revealed to me that I CAN do this.

As of today, I am down 9 pounds. It seems like so much weight, but at the same time, my pants still feel tight (how was I squeezing into them before?!) and I still look in the mirror and notice no difference on my body. But I am not going to let that discourage me. I KNOW I have been working hard and it has yielded results on the scale if no where else.

Exercise has gone really well for me. From going from nothing to working out almost every day for 30 days, I'm really happy. I am actually excited to go running now. Other work outs...not so much.

I'm off to complete my second work out of week 4 on the "couch to 5k".

A Treat and A Kick in the Butt

That's what I'm calling this Saturday. This morning me and the hubby went to a crepe place I have been wanting to try for over a year. I thought on the way there I would try to be healthy and choose a crepe with fruit. Well when I saw the title "Belgian dark chocolate crepe with almonds and whipped cream" I could NOT resist. Besides, I figured I could have a weekly cheat for such hard work all week.

The thing was DELICIOUS and totally worth it. I was so proud of myself that I didn't even finish the whole thing, and donated it to my personal garbage disposal (the hollow legged husband).

I was debating whether or not to go running today but that crepe made that decision. I need to kick some of those calories. Plus my pup is eager for a run. So I'm loading some new work out music to my IPod right now and I will soon be out the door!

My Workout Buddy

OK, I admit, this is just an excuse to brag about (who I believe) is the cutest puppy in the whole world! Chloe is almost 7 months old and a little ball of energy. She is such a great accountability partner because she will LET ME HAVE IT if she doesn't get her exercise in. This includes destroying things such as 20 dollar bills, my furniture, and various pairs of shoes. The message is clear, furry face, you want me to get my booty out that door and exercise!!

This is the little fuzz ball at 3 months old. When she first came home she slept all day and was the calmest puppy I had ever seen. Boy did she have us fooled!!
Here Chloe is at around 6 months. Don't let the cute face deceive you! She WILL eat your food off the counter when you leave the room! Carrots are the only snack spared!
Sometimes I can poop her out though. She is training with me to run that 5k! :)

Jumping for JOY

After yesterday's post I definitely needed a "lift me up!" Well my scale was happy to oblige this morning as it told me I am at 9 pounds down!! It was telling me 8 yesterday but I decided not to believe it until two days in a row (see my "It's Possessed" post about how I feel about my scale). It has a BAD habit of going up one pound the next day so I usually wait one day to confirm that weight. But not today, I'm celebrating!! (Insert adorable little victory dance like Rebecca from Biggest Loser)

Today I am planning on starting the "couch to 5k" training. Since I know I am a little bit further ahead then week one or two, I am going to be starting on week 4. I can't believe that I am actually excited to run! What is wrong with me!?!?!?

In other happy and exciting news, Kellen gave me my Christmas present last night. (I know, we are horrible at waiting!). And I got.....an IPOD touch! This also made me super excited. I went to work right away loading the Sparkpeople App to count my calories and loading some good workout music. They even have an App full of healthy meals to cook! Hallelujah, just what I needed. Thanks, hubby! :)

Weight Watchers Booklets Come Back to Haunt Me.

First of all, WHY i kept these stupid weight watchers booklets that I failed at, I have NO idea! haha. But I was rummaging through some old things (NOT the pantry, thankfully!!) this morning and found them. It's a bit frustrating to know that my beginning weight when I started Weight Watchers four years ago was 10 pounds less than I weigh now. GRR! But it was a little bit encouraging to see that I DID lose weight when I worked hard and stayed on track.

So that is the key change I need to make from them to now. This is NOT a one or two month "quick fix" (this has been a reoccurring theme in my last couple of posts, but it's just true!). How many days will it take for my body and mind realize that this trip won't end? I'm hoping that light bulb switches on soon!

Healthy Addictions

The other day I was watching the first female winner of "The Biggest Loser," Ali Vincent, on the Today Show. She said something along the lines of "I didn't want to go from one addiction to another" speaking of her addiction to overeating to then choosing an addiction to a healthy lifestyle. And I got to thinking...is that really such a bad thing? I havebeen on my journey for around 25 days now and I would definitely say I am starting to get "addicted" to losing weight. In the morning, thinking of going to the scale will actually get me OUT of bed. I feel guilty if I pop one or two cheez it's in my mouth from the kids I watch snack (and I consider computing the calories of two cheez its!).

So what do you think? Can choosing a healthy lifestyle be an addiction? Is this such a bad thing?

I want some friends!

hehe. Ok, in all seriousness I have absolutely no idea what I am doing at this "blogger" thing. I would love to have some "followers" i.e. "supporters" on my blog but I'm not quite sure how to go about this, considering I don't know many people trying to lose weight myself (damn all my skinny friends!!).

So far I have just started "following" a ton of random people's blogs. We will see how that is and hopefully people don't find this crazy. If you see this post, FOLLOW ME!!!

I did it!!

I just got home from running ONE MILE without stopping!! I was SO happy crossing that line (I ran at the High School track). I am so happy right now and proud of myself. The last time I jogged an entire mile was over three years ago in high school (probably more like 4 or 5 years). YAY!! On monday I am starting the "couch to 5k" training schedule. So excited.

The Drip Theory

You know when you hear someone say something and just does a "click" in your mind and you think to yourself "I GET THAT!!" Well, that's what happened just the other day with my friend Dave Ramsey. (ok, he's not really my friend, but we can pretend...) In case you don't know who Dave Ramsey is, here's a brief bio: Dave is a financial adviser with his own radio show. I listen to it pretty much any chance I get, and I tend to kind of overuse his advice on people (it's becoming quite an annoying habit...at least according to Kellen). Anyway, the other day Dave went off on a rant about how getting rich quickly is just not plausible. He said the best way to ensure wealth is to watch it "drip" slowly after years and years. Just think- if you are 20 years old and you put $100 in an IRA every month until you are 60, you will retire with over 1 million dollars. That's the drip theory- and it's pretty simple.

I got to thinking that this theory is SO right with weight loss too. All those "fad" diets tell you you can lose weight so quickly (seriously, who wants to eat cereal for two meals a day for two weeks??). But in the end, you just end up stopping right there...or...going back to where you started.

So I started my weight loss "drips" on November 9th. This means its going to be a long, slow, and steady race. But I will make it to that finish line someday. But here's the thing....the race has a finish line....but it never ends! Being healthy is a LIFE change, not just a one year one. So here we go!

Healthy CAN mean Yummy

I have been having SO much fun inventing and trying new delicious, low calorie meals. My favorite new breakfast is two whole wheat frozen waffles with 1/4 cup SF syrup and 1 banana. It's about 350 calories, which is a bit high for a "mini meal," but it's super filling and sooooo yummy!!

Last night I enjoyed some strawberries with four tablespoons of frozen cool whip. I was in heaven, it was soooo delicious and only 92 calories! Yay!!

Today for lunch I'm going to try an avacado BLT. I'm excited!!

By the way, this way I was back down to 6.5.

All I Want for Christmas is to Lose Ten Pounds!

Haha! Sounds like a silly title, but, in all honesty....that would make me a very, very happy girl! Man, losing weight=MONEY. Which, sadly to say, Kellen and I have been struggling to find lately. But I have used that excuse WAY to many times to not start losing weight. But seriously, I can see why the diet industry is the biggest money making industry in America. Today I went to the store and felt a bit sick to my stomach when the cashier said the total. But then again, let's see here...I could buy a butt ton of macaroni and top ramen and get fat.....or....I could spend money taking care of my body by buying produce and fresh ingredients and feel better for the rest of my life.

Another $$ problem I'm struggling with is whether or not to join a gym. I looked into memberships yesterday and MAN are those things expensive!! Were talking close to 50.00 bucks a month. But I can think back to when I was a sophomore in H.S. and I used that pass ALL the time. And the classes look so fun (well maybe fun is not the right word...hehe).

It doesn't look like that's going to happen for a while though. Ah, well. I tried to convince Kellen to buy me a membership for Christmas...but he wasn't going for it. He's rather buy me jewelery...HA! :) what a good husband....
