Weight Watchers Booklets Come Back to Haunt Me.

First of all, WHY i kept these stupid weight watchers booklets that I failed at, I have NO idea! haha. But I was rummaging through some old things (NOT the pantry, thankfully!!) this morning and found them. It's a bit frustrating to know that my beginning weight when I started Weight Watchers four years ago was 10 pounds less than I weigh now. GRR! But it was a little bit encouraging to see that I DID lose weight when I worked hard and stayed on track.

So that is the key change I need to make from them to now. This is NOT a one or two month "quick fix" (this has been a reoccurring theme in my last couple of posts, but it's just true!). How many days will it take for my body and mind realize that this trip won't end? I'm hoping that light bulb switches on soon!

Healthy Addictions

The other day I was watching the first female winner of "The Biggest Loser," Ali Vincent, on the Today Show. She said something along the lines of "I didn't want to go from one addiction to another" speaking of her addiction to overeating to then choosing an addiction to a healthy lifestyle. And I got to thinking...is that really such a bad thing? I havebeen on my journey for around 25 days now and I would definitely say I am starting to get "addicted" to losing weight. In the morning, thinking of going to the scale will actually get me OUT of bed. I feel guilty if I pop one or two cheez it's in my mouth from the kids I watch snack (and I consider computing the calories of two cheez its!).

So what do you think? Can choosing a healthy lifestyle be an addiction? Is this such a bad thing?

I want some friends!

hehe. Ok, in all seriousness I have absolutely no idea what I am doing at this "blogger" thing. I would love to have some "followers" i.e. "supporters" on my blog but I'm not quite sure how to go about this, considering I don't know many people trying to lose weight myself (damn all my skinny friends!!).

So far I have just started "following" a ton of random people's blogs. We will see how that is and hopefully people don't find this crazy. If you see this post, FOLLOW ME!!!

I did it!!

I just got home from running ONE MILE without stopping!! I was SO happy crossing that line (I ran at the High School track). I am so happy right now and proud of myself. The last time I jogged an entire mile was over three years ago in high school (probably more like 4 or 5 years). YAY!! On monday I am starting the "couch to 5k" training schedule. So excited.

The Drip Theory

You know when you hear someone say something and just does a "click" in your mind and you think to yourself "I GET THAT!!" Well, that's what happened just the other day with my friend Dave Ramsey. (ok, he's not really my friend, but we can pretend...) In case you don't know who Dave Ramsey is, here's a brief bio: Dave is a financial adviser with his own radio show. I listen to it pretty much any chance I get, and I tend to kind of overuse his advice on people (it's becoming quite an annoying habit...at least according to Kellen). Anyway, the other day Dave went off on a rant about how getting rich quickly is just not plausible. He said the best way to ensure wealth is to watch it "drip" slowly after years and years. Just think- if you are 20 years old and you put $100 in an IRA every month until you are 60, you will retire with over 1 million dollars. That's the drip theory- and it's pretty simple.

I got to thinking that this theory is SO right with weight loss too. All those "fad" diets tell you you can lose weight so quickly (seriously, who wants to eat cereal for two meals a day for two weeks??). But in the end, you just end up stopping right there...or...going back to where you started.

So I started my weight loss "drips" on November 9th. This means its going to be a long, slow, and steady race. But I will make it to that finish line someday. But here's the thing....the race has a finish line....but it never ends! Being healthy is a LIFE change, not just a one year one. So here we go!

Healthy CAN mean Yummy

I have been having SO much fun inventing and trying new delicious, low calorie meals. My favorite new breakfast is two whole wheat frozen waffles with 1/4 cup SF syrup and 1 banana. It's about 350 calories, which is a bit high for a "mini meal," but it's super filling and sooooo yummy!!

Last night I enjoyed some strawberries with four tablespoons of frozen cool whip. I was in heaven, it was soooo delicious and only 92 calories! Yay!!

Today for lunch I'm going to try an avacado BLT. I'm excited!!

By the way, this way I was back down to 6.5.

All I Want for Christmas is to Lose Ten Pounds!

Haha! Sounds like a silly title, but, in all honesty....that would make me a very, very happy girl! Man, losing weight=MONEY. Which, sadly to say, Kellen and I have been struggling to find lately. But I have used that excuse WAY to many times to not start losing weight. But seriously, I can see why the diet industry is the biggest money making industry in America. Today I went to the store and felt a bit sick to my stomach when the cashier said the total. But then again, let's see here...I could buy a butt ton of macaroni and top ramen and get fat.....or....I could spend money taking care of my body by buying produce and fresh ingredients and feel better for the rest of my life.

Another $$ problem I'm struggling with is whether or not to join a gym. I looked into memberships yesterday and MAN are those things expensive!! Were talking close to 50.00 bucks a month. But I can think back to when I was a sophomore in H.S. and I used that pass ALL the time. And the classes look so fun (well maybe fun is not the right word...hehe).

It doesn't look like that's going to happen for a while though. Ah, well. I tried to convince Kellen to buy me a membership for Christmas...but he wasn't going for it. He's rather buy me jewelery...HA! :) what a good husband....
